The VIERA X1 Series is part of Panasonics entry-level line of plasma HDTVs, and is one of the only Series that offers a 720p native resolution. Compared to the more expensive mid-range and premium lines, the plasma technology used in these displays isnt as good on paper, and produces a lower specified contrast ratio. Outside of the panel Panasonic omits most of the features found on the higher end models retaining only the SD Card slot and Game Mode from the S1 Series. The step-down models below the X1 Series is the X14s which feature a lower contrast ratio, and remove the SD Card slot and Game mode. Specifications 720p native resolution Panel specs 30,000:1 static contrast ratio 900 lines of motion resolution 600Hz sub drive VIERA Link Game Mode VIERA Image Viewer Inputs 3xHDMI Component VGA G10, X1 and S1 Features Game Mode - this display setting turns off all of ... PROS: (1) Great price/performance ratio, similar to the praised PX80 Series (2) Practically non-existence image-retention (3) Very accurate color reproduction (4) Good selection of ports, including digital audio out (5) Sleeker design than the PX80s ... CONS: (1) Color accuracy suffers when viewing standard definition content (2) Lesser picture quality compared to higher end sets (3) No analog audio out

THE GOOD: Relatively inexpensive; excellent black-level performance; solid connectivity with three HDMI and two component-video inputs. THE BAD: Inaccurate primary colors of green and red; faint diagonal lines visible in lighter areas; sparse picture controls; less efficient than similar LCDs. THE BOTTOM LINE: Although it requires more than a few picture quality tradeoffs, the Panasonic TC-P50X1 delivers the best black-levels-to-dollars ratio of any HDTV weve tested.

Bestcovery's experts have ranked this the #1 Best HDTV under $1000, #1 Best HDTV for Value, #1 Best Budget HDTV, #3 Best Affordable HDTV for the Living Room, and #5 Best 50 inch Plasma TV. Panasonic’s 50" 720p plasma TV delivers great performance and is available for under $1000, making it an extremely attractive option for buyers on a budget. This HDTV offers very impressive black level performance that matches or exceeds many more expensive competitors. While the panel is only 720p, most hi-def content is only available in 720p or 1080i anyway. And if you are watching 1080p content such as Blu-ray movies, it’ll be hard to notice the resolution difference at this screen size. The TC-P50X1 includes 3 HDMI inputs, but you'll have to step up to the S1 or G10 for a PC input. Considering its price, the only significant downside is that it's far less efficient than comparable LCD TVs.
