description :
Extraordinary still and HD video imaging performance converge in the fast and agile 12.3-megapixel, DX-format D300S, delivering D-SLR versatility. Capture cinematic 24 fps, 720p HD movie clips, enhanced by NIKKOR interchangeable lens quality.
Review : More of an evolutionary upgrade to the D300, the Nikon D300S sports a faster frame rate, dual-media capability, and HD video capability. While the Nikon D300S has the same 12.3-megapixel sensor as its predecessor, it can now capture up to 7.1 frames per second, which increases to 8 frames per second with the optional battery grip. The new SD/SDHC slot gives the Nikon D300S greater versatility, and it still has a Type I CompactFlash slot to work with the more traditional professional standard. But the big story with the Nikon D300S digital camera is its HD movie mode, capable of capturing 1,280 x 720 pixel videos at 24 frames per second. Though it has a built-in monaural microphone for audio recording, the Nikon D300S also includes a stereo mic-in jack for higher quality recording than was offered with the Nikon D90. Users can frame images via the big, beautiful optical viewfinder or the large, high-resolution LCD in Live view mode, and they can view their images and videos direct from the camera thanks to the Nikon D300S's HDMI-out port. The Nikon D300S is an impressive digital camera. See our full review for more on the Nikon D300S.

Review : The Nikon D300S is a high-end 13.1 megapixel digital SLR camera released in August 2009. As the successor to the Nikon D300, this updated camera absorbs several features seen since the original’s release including the virtual horizon and quite drive feature, plus a 720p movie mode. A first for Nikon is contrast-detection autofocus, which operates while taking video on the D300S. Compared to the previous model, the camera’s continuous shooting speed has been increased to 7fps from 6fps. Other improvements include simplified menus as well as extra lighting options. Other features include a 3 inch LCD display, 51 autofocus points and a dual memory card slot (CF/SD). The D300S uses what Nikon calls “EXPEED” image processing, which allows the camera to automatically adjust internal settings based on the shooting environment. More experienced users can manually adjust a variety of camera settings including the flash, white balance focus and exposure. Features 3” ... PROS: (1) 51-point AF system (2) durable build (3) slightly faster continuous shooting compared to the D300 (7 or 8FPS vs 6 or 7FPS - depends on use of battery grip) (4) now offers SD card support (as well as CF) includes intelligent management modes (backup mirror, splitting RAW & JPEG, overflow) (5) low noise 12.3MP sensor (same as that on the originally D300) ... CONS: (1) mono microphone for video recording (2) 5 minute video length limit (3) not a revolutionary upgrade from the now year-old D300

Review : Comparing spec sheets, we knew that the Nikon D300S wouldnt be a major overhaul of the pro photographers favorite workhorse, the D300. The D300S most notably adds HD video to the existing model, perhaps making it more of an attractive upgrade to D90 owners than current D300 users. Theres plenty of good news here for anyone considering Nikons newest pro DSLR, and its all detailed in our full review.
Review : The Nikon D300s is a powerful semi-pro DSLR which builds upon the already highly capable D300. The inclusion of 720p video with a microphone input is a welcome upgrade, and the Virtual Horizon and Quiet mode are minor but handy gadgets. By far the most useful new additions though are the dual memory card slots, allowing you to backup images or organise RAW and JPEGs on separate media. So once again a very strong camera has become even better, but unlike its predecessor, the D300s now has a direct rival in Canon's EOS 7D. There's a lot to weigh-up between them, not to mention other models above and below in the range, so in our D300s review at Cameralabs we've compared all the key features. You'll also find sample images in both JPEG and RAW, along with a video clip you can download and evaluate on your own computer - and for a demo of the key features, there's also our video tour, in high definition.
Review : THE GOOD: Outstanding performance for its class; excellent photo quality; solidly built; flexible custom settings architecture; video capture; onboard wireless flash controller; dual card slots. THE BAD: Some annoying design and interface quirks; no significant improvements in high ISO noise performance. THE BOTTOM LINE: The Nikon D300s is a great camera, especially if you need the burst speed or slightly improved low-light focus, but if you dont care about video you might consider looking for a really good deal on a D300 and using what you save to splurge on a good lens.
