Bestcovery's experts have ranked this the #2 Best Digital SLR for Beginners and #2 Best Budget Digital SLR (dSLR). For the casual or beginner photographer, the Nikon D3000 is the way to go. This 10.2 megapixel DSLR, which replaces the very popular and versatile D40, is the perfect digital camera for beginners that are becoming more serious about photography. With 6 auto modes you’ll be sure to get the best shot with little hassle, but there are plenty of advanced controls to explore that will give you a lot of creative control over our images. The Guide Mode is a great feature for first-time users and allows you to learn to use the camera in different shooting situations with ease. The compact body, great grip, and light weight design make this DSLR very easy to carry around and travel with as well. The D3000’s feature set, excellent image quality, and ease of use make it a top choice for beginners wanting to learn more about digital photography and create great photos with ease.

The Nikon D3000 is the replacement for the Nikon D40 and D60 digital SLR cameras, inheriting some features from each, including a 10-megapixel sensor, a simplified control interface, and a small body. The Nikon D3000 kit includes a Vibration Reduction zoom lens in place of the older ED lens that shipped with the D40. The D3000's special Guide mode is designed to make shooting in special circumstances a little easier for novices, and the Nikon D3000 includes an 11-point AF system for better coverage of the image area. Small and affordable, the Nikon D3000 takes up the mantle of one of Nikon's best selling digital SLR cameras, but does the mantle fit? Click for our full review of the Nikon D3000 digital SLR.

The D3000 is Nikon?s latest entry-level DSLR, featuring 10.2 Megapixels and an easy-to-use control system aimed at beginners or those upgrading from a point-and-shoot. It?s the true successor to the popular D60 and positioned below the D5000 in the current Nikon range. The D3000 inherits the sensor and body of the earlier D60, but increases the screen size to 3in and grabs the impressive 11-point auto-focus system of the higher-end D5000 and D90, not to mention their viewfinder guidelines. It?s a solid budget specification and the new Guide mode genuinely makes things easier for beginners, but the D3000 is up against tough competition in the form of Canon?s EOS 1000D / Rebel XS and Sony?s Alpha A230. In our full review of the D3000 we?ve directly compared the design, build and image quality of all three models, to help you make the right choice. So if you?re shopping for a budget DSLR, check out our Nikon D3000 review and HD video tour at Camera Labs!

THE GOOD: Beginner-friendly Guide mode; nicely laid out interactive control panel; solid photo quality up through ISO 1,600. THE BAD: Extremely basic feature set; annoying multiselector switch. THE BOTTOM LINE: Its feature set is basic even by entry-level standards, but the Nikon D3000 delivers the photo quality and performance you expect when stepping up to a dSLR, with an optional interface thats very newbie friendly.

The Nikon D3000 is an entry level digital SLR camera released in August 2009. Physically, this DSLR is compact and lightweight, making it more convenient to carry around than a conventional SLR. The D3000 borrows several features from its predecessors; a 10.2 megapixel CCD sensor and 3fps continuous shooting from the Nikon D60, plus an 11-point autofocus system with 3D tracking from the D90. This camera has a comparatively larger LCD screen at a full 3 inches. Another new feature is the guide mode, which teaches beginners how to properly use the D3000, and how to get the most out of their new investment. The D3000 uses what Nikon calls “EXPEED” image processing, which allows the camera to automatically adjust internal settings based on the shooting environment. More experienced users can manually adjust a variety of camera settings including the flash, white balance focus and exposure. Features 3” TFT LCD display ... PROS: (1) large 3" display (2) utilizes easy to find, affordable and capacious SD/SDHC storage (3) 11-point autofocus, vastly superior to the D40/D60 (4) great price for a first time DSLR buyer (5) guide mode - sets up camera based on user input, helps teach amateurs ... CONS: (1) display pixel count is the same as the much smaller display on the D40/D60 (230k) (2) not a very big upgrade over the previous generation models (3) no video mode (4) same 10MP sensor as the D60
