Canon's 15.1-megapixel Rebel T1i has most of what's great about the EOS 50D in a smaller body, making it the the most advanced Rebel to date. As consumer digital SLR camera choices go, the Canon T1i is a safe bet, with a 3-inch, high-res LCD, an optically image-stabilized zoom lens, a 3.4 frame-per-second frame rate, and built-in HD movie recording capability. The Canon T1i's still-image performance surpasses all contenders at this price point, as well as many higher-priced digital SLR cameras, with not just high resolution, but impressive high-ISO performance. For the first time, a Rebel can go above ISO 1,600, all the way up to 12,800, and the Canon T1i's image quality beats the EOS 50D at this setting, making a decent 5x7-inch print. Overall, the Canon T1i is a very well-rounded digital SLR camera, with plenty to offer amateur, intermediate, and professional photographers. The EOS Rebel T1i is a very capable digital SLR that not only takes great pictures -- it can record HD videos, as well (with limitations). Other nice features on the T1i include a 3-inch, high resolution LCD, a nice mix of automatic and manual controls, and the expandability that one would expect from a digital SLR. With tough competition, the Rebel T1i isn't leaps and bounds ahead of the competition like previous models once were. However, it remains a solid choice for those looking for a compact, fairly inexpensive digital SLR.

Bestcovery's experts have ranked this the #3 Best Digital SLR Camera Overall and #4 Best Canon Digital SLR Camera Overall. The Canon Rebel T1i sits a step above the immensely popular Rebel XSi in Canon’s dSLR lineup. Compared to the XSi, the T1i boasts a higher-resolution sensor (15.1-megapixel), faster performance, and a new HD movie mode. This camera delivers excellent picture quality for the price. Images are very detailed with low noise even at high ISO settings. Performance is excellent for its class, with very low shutter lag and shot-to-shot times. Beginners will appreciate fully automatic controls as well as the Creative Auto mode, which provides automatic functionality but allows users to easily make adjustments to Exposure and Background to enhance their photos. This provides more creative control without requiring the user to be an experienced photographer. This camera’s large 3.0” LCD is sharp and bright, but the viewfinder is disappointing. The Canon T1i features a movie mode with two HD shooting modes: 1920x1080 at 20fps and 1280x720 at 30fps. While the ability to shoot at 1080p is nice, video with fast motion gets choppy because of the 20fps limitation. For cleaner, smoother output, you’ll typically be better off shooting at 720p. While the movie mode still isn’t terrific, it’s superior to the Nikon D5000 or D90 and definitely a nice feature to have. Overall, the Canon T1i impresses with its excellent performance and image quality for the price. It’s definitely one of the best entry-level SLR cameras on the market.

Canon?s EOS Rebel T1i is a feature-packed DSLR which boasts a wide variety of improvements over its predecessor. The semi-pro EOS 50D provides much of the inspiration with the T1i sharing the same resolution and sensitivity (albeit with a slightly different sensor), the same 3in VGA screen and an HDMI port just for starters. The T1i goes beyond the 50D though by becoming Canon?s second DSLR to offer HD video recording. The 1080p Full HD mode isn?t ideal, recording at a not-quite-smooth 20fps, but the 720p / 30fps mode has the potential to look great ? so long as you workaround the issues of other DSLRs with video. So you get many of the 50D?s features in a smaller, lighter and more affordable camera with the addition of HD video. It?s a great package, but up against tough rivals in the form of Nikon?s D5000 and the Olympus E-620. Each has pros and cons, and in our full review at Cameralabs we?ve compared the features and image quality of all three, along with including several video samples you can download and view for yourself.

Canon's Rebel T1i is the company's first sub-$1000 video SLR, with a 15-megapixel sensor, and the ability to record video at 1920x1080 resolution (though only 20 frames per second). It comes bundled with a 18-55mm, f/3.5 IS lens for $899.99, and has an impressive 920,000-dot 3-inch LCD. The T1i supports a wide range of ISO settings, from 100-12,800 including the extended range. This camera stands in direct competition with the Nikon D5000, an $850 model (with lens) that shoots 12-megapixel still images, and 1280x720 video at 24 fps. We put the T1i through our lab test regimen and came up with some rather discouraging results. While it performed well in terms of color accuracy and had a good movie mode, it struggled in other areas. The T1i's dynamic range was quite narrow, it struggled with both automatic and manual white balance, and most noticeably had very poor image sharpness. Another major problem was the lack of controls in movie mode, to the point where you can't set the aperture in video mode, which removes much of the appeal of shooting movies with an SLR.

THE GOOD: Fast performance; very nice photo quality; HD video capture. THE BAD: Annoying viewfinder; video capture is its only better-than-basic feature. THE BOTTOM LINE: A solid, slightly better-than-basic dSLR, the Canon EOS Rebel T1i delivers photo quality and performance that adequately compensates for most of its annoyances.

Into the Wild is the bestselling non-fiction book by Jon Krakauer, and was written in 1996 as an expansion of Krakauers 9,000 word article, "Death of an Innocent", which appeared in the January 1993 issue of Outside magazine.  Krakauer spent three years carrying out the background research work for this biography.  It covers the tale of Christopher McCandless, who in April 1992 at the age of 24, wandered into the Alaska wilderness with only 10 pounds of rice, a .22 calibre rifle, a camera, & some books.....and was found dead of starvation four months later in an abandoned bus.   After graduating in 1990 from Emory University, McCandless ceased communicating with his family, gave away his $24,000 savings account, and began travelling under the name Alexander Supertramp.  He later abandoned his car and burned all the money in his wallet in an attempt to become self-sufficient and live off the land.  Krakauer intersperses the McCandless story with ... PROS: (1) Book provides a lot more insight and facts than the movie (2) Is hard to put down once you start reading ... CONS: (1) The movie adaptation varies only slightly, but if you see the movie first it may skew your bias on McCandless (book is more true to the reality) (2) Author selective & incorrect on some details like plant toxicity.
