The VSX-521-K is an entry level AV receiver to be released in 2011 along with three other models in Pioneers mid-level range all of which have multiple HDMI inputs, 3D video playback and Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoding. This being the base model is the most affordable and does not feature support for apple devices like the others, although all have Bluetooth capability with the optional adapter for streaming audio to the unit from your iPhone or compatible device. It has 5.1 channel audio at 110 watts per channel similar to the VSX-821-K, while the other two have 7.1 channels. All have the same Direct Energy amp section and output power except for the top of the line Apple AirPlay compatible VSX-1021-K which puts out 120 watts per channel. New in these units is Pioneers own Multi-Channel Acoustic Calibration or MCACC system with microphone input jack which can be ... PROS: (1) Bluetooth compatibility when used with adapter (2) Self calibration system adjusts output according to room (3) well documented - included instruction manual is easy to follow (4) looks good - stylish and elegant (5) great sound - audiophile-like quality at a fraction of the cost of higher-end models ...
