The Sony STR-DH820 is a mid-level A/V receiver featuring 7.1 channel surround sound. The STR-DH820 supports four HDMI inputs and three component inputs to handle a large variety of sources, and features compatibility with new 3D content including 3D Blu-ray, sports and games. Though similar to the cheaper STR-DH720, the STR-DH820 features an additional component input and simplifies iPhone/iPod playback with included dock. Like the DH720, the DH820 can upconvert analog signals to near HD quality through digital conversion and output. Audio output is optimized through inclusion of LPCM, Dolby TrueHD and ProLogic codecs, delivering advanced Blu-Ray audio decoding, can dynamically adjust volume, and features dual subwoofer preouts for increased bass effect. Set-up and use of the STR-DH820 is simplified through on-screen graphical user interface, integrated interface with Sony 2011 Televisions, and auto calibration for quick speaker set-up.
