Review : The Canon PowerShot SX30IS is a high-end point-and-shoot camera set to be released in September, 2010. According to the manufacturer, this is the world’s first camera with a 35x zoom lens. Also featured is a 14.1-megapixel CCD sensor, the same type commonly found in competing point-and-shoots. This camera will be able to produce exquisite detail at full magnification, but amateur photographers looking to capture far away subjects will likely find this PowerShot to be of use. Manual and semi-manual shooting modes are built-in, which can be manipulated through the 2.7-inch LCD screen or electronic viewfinder. For video, users can record up to 720p HD quality footage. A rechargeable battery is included in the box. Review : Canon continues to build on the reputation of one of the best super-zooms around, audaciously upping the ante by equipping the SX30 IS with a jaw-dropping 35x optical zoom lens. There's not much you can't photograph with a lens that extends from 25 to 850mm and there's certainly very little in terms of competing models that come close to that range. Other improvements, though less eye-catching, remain significant. The larger screen size is welcome and the enhancement to the optical image stabilisation mean this is a lens you'll be able to get the most from, even in low light. The switch to a Lithium Ion battery won't please everyone, but nonetheless has its advantages, one being a slight decrease in overall weight despite the larger lens. Increasing the sensor resolution to 14 Megapixels though adds little in terms of image quality, and the continued absence of RAW means its rivals from Panasonic still enjoy an edge for enthusiasts wanting to get the most from their camera's files. The only real blot on the PowerShot SX30 IS landscape is the problem of colour fringing at the wide angle and telephoto extremes of the zoom range.
