Canon PowerShot SD4500 IS review at Camera Labs

by cameralabs.com Monday, January 01, 0001
Review : Canon's PowerShot SD4500 IS is certainly a very nice compact super-zoom camera. It's smaller and a little lighter than most rivals, while also enjoying better quality in low light thanks to its modest resolution. Add 1080p video, neat slow motion and miniature effects, along with a mode which stacks a burst of images to effectively reduce noise, and you've got a compelling package. The only real flies in the ointment are a lack of true wide angle coverage and a shorter than average battery life. The really big issues facing the SD4500 IS though are its compact super-zoom rivals, lead by Panasonic's Lumix ZS10. The ZS10 may be thicker, a little heaver and one third more expensive, but that gets you a broader 16x range with much wider coverage, full manual control, a more detailed display with touch-screen capabilities, built-in GPS, 3D capture, longer battery life and more besides. But Canon's decision to stick with a modest resolution has served the SD4500 IS well. In our full review at Camera Labs you'll find detailed comparisons between the Canon and Panasonic super-zooms, along with an in-depth look at all the features.

Review : The Canon PowerShot SD4500IS is a highend compact camera aimed at the consumer market. It is packed with features such as FullHD (1080p) video recording, slow motion video capture, and a high sensitivity 10.0 mega pixel sensor. With the built in auto program function, the SD4500IS can automatically pick from 28 picture modes to suit the shooting environment thus producing a high quality photo. One particular feature that stands out from the rest is the 19x optical zoom lens which is a rarity in a camera body only 22.3mm thick. The included lithium ion battery last for approximately 150 shots and 4hours 30min of play back time. The SD4500IS is compatible with SD/SDHC/SDXC media cards and can print stored photos via "PictBridge" compatible printers via the provided USB2.0 cable. PROS: (1) built in a compact form factor, small enough to put in a pocket (2) improved low light sensitivity (backside illuminated sensor) (3) 10x optical zoom lens (4) records to easy to find, affordable and capacious SD/SDHC/SDXC flash memory cards (5) mini-HDMI output for direct playback on compatible HDTVs and displays ... Canon PowerShot SD4500 IS Review

by Imaging Resource Monday, January 01, 0001
Review : Canon always makes two long zoom ELPHs, one with a wide zoom, and one biased toward the long end of the zoom spectrum: The Canon SD4500 IS falls into the latter category, and goes quite a bit longer than normal, with a 10x, 36-360mm f/3.4 lens that collapses flush to the camera's smooth front panel. If cropping your pictures is your thing anyway, the Canon SD4500 might be the digital camera for you. Its 16:9 aspect LCD is tuned for capture of Full HD video, while the 10-megapixel CMOS sensor captures a pretty good 4:3 still image. The Canon SD4500 represents something of a compromise, employing a CMOS sensor to get Full HD, while backing off on resolution to keep the noise down for still images. It's quite a balancing act. Read our review to see whether the Canon PowerShot SD4500 digital camera's image quality holds up.
