Review : THE GOOD: Optical viewfinder; articulated LCD; built-in neutral-density filter; very good photo quality for its class. THE BAD: Shot-to-shot performance still a little sluggish; some annoying controls. THE BOTTOM LINE: Relatively unchanged from its predecessor, save the addition of 720p video, the Canon PowerShot G12 remains a very good, more-or-less compact model, designed to please photo enthusiasts.
Review : The Canon PowerShot G12 is a digital compact camera, released in late 2010. As the successor to the PowerShot G11, this camera adds 720p HD video recording at 24fps. Other improvements include a backside-illuminated HS System 10 megapixel CCD sensor, a DIGIC 4 processor and a 2.8-inch LCD screen. In terms of optics, a 5x zoom lens with teleconverting capabilities comes in the box. Compared to its predecessor, the G12 produces better macro shots due the incremental upgrades it has received. In addition to JPEG shooting, RAW files are also supported by the PowerShot G12. Also, an all-new HDR mode has been integrated, allowing operators to take shots without the need for post processing. A rechargeable lithium-ion battery is included in the box. Features 10 megapixel 1/1.7-inch type CCD sensor 2.8” LCD screen Optical viewfinder 5x zoom lens 720p video recording Smart AUTO and manual controls RAW+JPEG shooting modes Rechargeable battery ... PROS: (1) offers lots of manual controls (2) lens adapter and hot shoe for use of filters and more powerful flashes (3) slightly cheaper than the G11 at launch (4) capable of shooting in RAW (5) new 720p/24 video mode ... CONS: (1) more expensive than the evenly matched competition from Nikon (2) overall extremely similar to the G11 (3) fixed 5x zoom lens

Review : Canon's PowerShot G12 continues the G-series' proud tradition of delivering high-end features and full manual control in a chunky but portable body. This is Canon's flagship compact: a well-built and feature-packed camera designed to appeal to enthusiasts. The core specification hasn't changed since the G11, but a selection of minor upgrades address some of the issues facing the earlier model, while others take inspiration from the best of the competition, most notably its major rival from Panasonic. Unfortunately for the G12 though, the market for enthusiast-level compacts is changing quickly, and Canon's top dog is looking increasingly uncomfortable sat between EVIL compacts which squeeze DSLR sensors into roughly the same dimensions, and models like the PowerShot S95 which match the G12's quality in a much more portable body. Then there's Panasonic's LX5 to consider. We've compared the quality and features of the G12 against all three in our full review at Camera Labs to help you choose the right high-end compact.
Review : As the longest running line in digital camera history, the G-series has produced its finest camera yet: the Canon PowerShot G12. Though more of a refinement of the G11, the Canon G12 sports a 10-megapixel sensor, a 5x optical zoom ranging from 28-140mm equivalents, and a 2.8-inch swiveling LCD. That LCD is no slouch, either, with 461,000 dots and excellent color. A new electronic level function helps ensure straighter horizons, and a new set of aspect ratio gives you greater control over image shape. 720p HD movie mode is also new to the Canon G12, now with stereo sound as well. And a special HDR Scene mode makes shooting high-dynamic range images pretty easy so long as you shoot them with a tripod. High ISO performance is very good, actually besting the Canon S95, and overall performance is about what we'd expect, making the Canon G12 an excellent all-purpose camera, even if it's not quite shirt or pants pocketable. Review : The Canon PowerShot G12 is a serious camera aimed firmly at the well-off amateur or pro looking for a carry-everywhere compact. Building on the success of previous G-series models, for 2010 the G12 principally adds 720p HD video, stereo sound, High Dynamic Range shooting mode, and a DSLR-like front control dial. £539 / ?649 / $499.99 is an awful lot of money for a compact with a small image sensor - read our expert Canon PowerShot G12 review to find out if its worth it.
Review : The PowerShot G12 offers a solid (though somewhat cluttered) design, great photo quality, features for beginners and enthusiasts, HD video, and more optional extras than anything else in its class. Sure, a faster lens, further improved movie mode, and an actual printed manual would be nice, but I guess those will have to wait for the next mode
