The Samsung PN59D550 is a 59" 3D plasma HDTV by Samsung. It resides in the 2011 line of Samsung plasma TVs, which are the biggest and slimmest yet. Despite having a large 59" diagonal screen, the Samsung PN59D550 is only 1/4" thick. Like all of the TVs in the 2011 line, the Samsung PN59D550 features an ATSC/NTSC/ClearQAM tuner, can stream media from a DLNA-enabled computer using Samsung AllShare, and has a 1080p resolution as well as digital image processing that creates a 3D effects from 2D source material, such as regular TV, DVDs, and games. The Samsung PN59D550 uses shutter 3D technology, meaning it flickers between two different versions of the same image at a very high frequency. This is correlated with the 3D glasses, which switch between the left and right lens at the same frequency. Hence, the glasses are active and require batteries. However, the Samsung PN59D550 does not ... PROS: (1) good enough sound not to need an external system, clearly defined and loud enough for small and medium sized rooms (2) picture adjustment controls are very in-depth, allow for professional-level fine tuning (3) bezel is a dark glass instead of the typical plastic (4) picture is extremely sharp and clear, can get right up close to it and not see any blurriness (5) unusually thin and light for a plasma TV, only 2 inches thick ... CONS: (1) screen glare is very noticeable in certain rooms, need to plan ahead a little (2) some darker scenes arent very well defined, could use better contrast
