Panasonic DMC-GH2 HDSLR
by videomaker.com Monday, January 01, 0001
Review :
For video enthusiasts looking for larger sensors, shallow depth of field, autofocus, and fixes to many of the problems of HDSLRs in the past, the Panasonic DMC-GH2 is the perfect choice. Though its sensor is smaller than other comparable cameras, the ability to output full HD over HDMI, to tilt and pan the LCD, and a low price make this camera worth taking a look.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2 | w/ 14-140mm

Review :
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2 is a well-received hybrid DSLR that’s compatible with all four-thirds lenses via adapter mounts, and also compatible with Panasonic’s 3D lens, though a firmware update is required. It hosts the same aesthetics as its predecessor, the DMC-GH1, but adds along an enhanced 16MP multi-aspect LIVE MOS sensor, a faster Venus Engine FHD processor with three cores, and improved video capture up to 1080/60i or 1080/24p at 24Mbps, which is the highest in AVCHD format. Plus the articulating 3” LCD display offers 40% more of the sRGB color gamut and is now touchscreen, the electronic viewfinder is sharper (1.44 million to 1.53 million dots), and there’s a burst rate of 5fps for high-speed photography. Features LUMIX G Micro System Hybrid DSLR Four-Thirds Compatible Panasonic 3D-Lens Compatible 1080/60i & 1080/24p Video Capture Touch-Controlled Articulated LCD Display 16MP LIVE MOS Sensor Venus Engine FHD Intelligent Auto Mode 3-Level Light-Speed AF ... PROS: (1) newly developed high resolution 16MP sensor (2) continuous shooting up to 5fps (3) Micro 4/3rds design - lighter and more compact than full dSLR designs (4) fully articulating (rotating / tilting) " 461k-pixel touchscreen display (5) electronic viewfinder - fairly bright and easy to use, extremely high resolution at 1.5M dots ... CONS: (1) high price - better image quality is available for the price (albeit in a larger package) (2) electronic viewfinder - compared to the optical viewfinder of larger full dSLR cameras (3) smaller sensor than dSLRs - introduces noise sooner (at lower ISOs) (4) small continuous shooting buffer
Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2 review at Camera Labs

Review :
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2 delivers one of the most satisfying and uncompromised experiences from a hybrid camera to date. Still photo quality is as the best we've seen from the Micro Four Thirds standard and keeps-up with APS-C sensors at low to mid sensitivities even with its boost in resolution, while autofocus is very snappy, proving contrast-based systems can actually out-perform phase-change systems while avoiding potential front and rear focusing errors. The video is the real highlight though, with the GH2 sporting Full HD capture with 24p and variable speed options, genuine continuous autofocus, manual exposure control, and very neat touch-screen focusing which lets you pull-focus between subjects without changing the composition or turning a manual focusing ring. And thanks to the design of the lenses, the autofocusing is quiet too. The absence of a motorised zoom aside, the movie experience is as usable as a modern camcorder, but with the benefit of a big sensor and interchangeable lenses. Like all hybrid cameras though, you'll find areas where a more specialised model will out-perform it. There are times when a DSLR is more practical, and even if you decide a hybrid is for you, there's the compelling Sony SLT models to consider. In our full review of the GH2 at Camera Labs we'll examine the pros and cons of all the options to help you make the right choice.
Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2 (black, with 14-40mm lens)

Review :
THE GOOD: Excellent video quality; articulating display with generally good touch-screen interface; variable frame-rate movie mode. THE BAD: Annoying AVCHD-imposed limitations for video; no way to lock AF area on touch screen; middling battery life. THE BOTTOM LINE: Its speedy, feature-packed, and an excellent ILC for shooting video, but to consistently get really good photos out of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2 requires shooting raw.
Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2 Review

Review :
Though most of today's digital SLRs and CSCs can do video, only a few are made for video, among them the Panasonic GH2, whose sensor and autofocus system are tuned for both stills and video. Capable of capturing 16-megapixel stills and 1080i HD video, the Panasonic GH2 has a faster sensor and a Venus Engine FHD processor, both tuned for recording video at a faster bit rate than the GH1. Autofocus for stills is blazing fast, especially for a contrast-detect system, easily rivaling SLRs in speed, and that speed is useful in the Panasonic GH2's video recording as well, as one of the few hybrid cameras that can autofocus during recording. With both an articulating, touch-sensitive LCD and a superb Electronic Viewfinder, the Panasonic GH2 offers a little more than most compact system cameras, but it's also a little larger than most, coming close in size to a small consumer SLR. Stereo recording and a high ISO of 12,800 round out the package. Panasonic's selection of excellent lenses, as well as those from other Micro Four Thirds vendors, assures a good selection of available optics, including a special 3D lens which we also try.
