The Nikon D3000 is an entry level digital SLR camera released in August 2009. Physically, this DSLR is compact and lightweight, making it more convenient to carry around than a conventional SLR. The D3000 borrows several features from its predecessors; a 10.2 megapixel CCD sensor and 3fps continuous shooting from the Nikon D60, plus an 11-point autofocus system with 3D tracking from the D90. This camera has a comparatively larger LCD screen at a full 3 inches. Another new feature is the guide mode, which teaches beginners how to properly use the D3000, and how to get the most out of their new investment. The D3000 uses what Nikon calls “EXPEED” image processing, which allows the camera to automatically adjust internal settings based on the shooting environment.
