The Bose Companion 5 Series II is a three-piece, multimedia speaker system designed for use with a computer. It builds from the Companion 3 Series II by incorporating larger, low frequency speakers. More importantly, it’s geared for 5.1-encoded games, movies, and music, meaning improved sound quality and performance. Plus, unlike its predecessor, which is limited to stereo and auxiliary connections, this system adds along USB connection and power cord. In general, reviewers say the Bose Companion 5 provides a lot more fulfilling audio, and that it accurately conveys 5.1-channel audio. Unfortunately there are some things missing, such as a microphone input (which would be useful for gaming), not to mention an on/off switch. CONS: (1) doesnt really provide you with surround sound - only simulates a 5.1 setup (2) A lot more capable (louder and better sounding) options for this price. (3) USB connection is non-standard connection. (4) Limiters prevent high SPL - This system wont get very loud if youre into that sort of thing. (5) expensive - costs significantly more than most 2.1 PC speaker sets
