The Microsoft Wireless Comfort Desktop 5000 is a wireless keyboard/mouse set released in August 2009 in preparation for the launch of the Windows 7 operating system. It features an ergonomically designed wireless keyboard and a wireless BlueTrack mouse. Both devices rely on 2.4GHz wireless technology to transmit to an included USB transceiver within a range of up to 30’. The keyboard is especially built for Windows 7, as it works with the new Taskbar Favorites feature — whereby open applications can be mapped directly to the keyboard. As for the mouse, it utilizes Microsoft’s proprietary BlueTrack technology, which they claim allows the mouse to work on nearly any type of surface, including airport carpet and even park benches. PROS: (1) The keyboards rubberized palm rest makes even hours of use feel much more comfortable. (2) The keyboard feels very nice to type on, especially at high speeds, making it ideal for office/secretarial use. (3) Despite the mouses smaller-than-average size, it feels comfortable and fits well even in larger hands. (4) Small, discrete wireless USB dongle doesnt get in the way of other ports and can be kept plugged into laptops with little trouble. ... CONS: (1) The keyboards function keys are smaller, more recessed and not grouped in the typical manner. (2) Mouses scroll wheel spins too smoothly, offering no reference clicking like standard mouse wheels, making it awkward to use. (3) Lack of LED indication lights (caps, num, scroll lock) is nonsensical. Instead, a tray icon indicates keyboard status which is annoying.
